The Anatomy of a Lace Bra
Everything you need to know about what women wear under there with a little help from leading lingerie boutique Journelle.
It's almost time to do a closet cleaning! From Winter wears to Spring and Summer style, it's also important to give your undergarments a makeover. So, we sat down with Allison Beale, Marketing and Brand Director of Journelle, for a little Q&A about the anatomy of a lace bra, which has just as many benefits within its construction as its exterior beauty.
G: How should a bra fit?
AB: You should always start with a snug but comfortable band. The majority of the bra's support comes from the band. The cups should be full, but not overflowing. Also, you want to avoid the seam of the cup cutting into your breast. The balconette style should provide a natural lift.
G: are there advantages to a lace bra?
AB: There are no clear advantages of a lace bra. It's more of a matter of preference. What I can tell you is that lace is synonymous with lingerie. The unlined lace demi is a signature, go-to bra at Journelle. It's lovely, naturally flattering and unabashedly feminine.
G: Why choose a balconette Style Bra?
AB: Balconette is one of the most flattering bra silhouettes. It's so classically French, feminine, and perfect for showing off your décolleté. It's worth to note that a balconette bra offers less coverage - it's a demi or half cup. Balconette literally means "balcony."
G: Is this bra an option for women above a D cup?
AB: Absolutely! Isabel can actually be worn by an E or F cup. The seamed cup and rigid lace from which it’s constructed offers support with minimum coverage.
G: How long should a lace bra last a lady?
AB: Lace bras are delicate, but they are still bras and can last, with proper care, for a long time. We recommend replacing your "everyday" bras (the ones you wear often though never day-in or day-out) every six months. After six months of heavy, almost daily wear, the band will likely be stretched out, straps may slip, and the bra's overall appearance may be less than lovely.
G: Are there particular Garments that best benefit from this style?
AB: The unlined lace demi is one of our go-to bras at Journelle. We wear them beneath almost anything - even T-shirts. That said, there is nothing sexier than a hint of lace peeking out from a button-down blouse.
G: what should women expect when shopping Journelle?
AB: There is much to be said about in-store lingerie shopping – most of it is less than flattering. But we absolutely believe in the store experience! Our stores are designed to make women feel comfortable, lovely, and beautiful the moment they walk inside.

G: Any other tips that bra shoppers should be aware of?
AB: Get sized! But don't get too hung up on your measured size. It's much more important to find a bra that feels good and looks great on you.
